Unboxing: EDS2 (Data Spaces Demonstrator Center for the health and social care sector)

The digital transformation of the health and social care sector requires new ways of managing, sharing, and leveraging data in a secure, interoperable, and people-centered manner. In this context, EDS2, a Data Spaces Demonstrator Center for the health and social care sector, has been created.

EDS2 aims to drive a new generation of data-driven services, promoting innovation, efficiency, and improved care quality in the field of health and social services. The project seeks to facilitate access to digital infrastructures and advanced technologies, foster new service models, and generate an ecosystem of collaboration among public, private, technological, and socio-health stakeholders.

During this Unboxing session, we presented EDS2 together with GAIA, exploring its value proposition and real use cases that are already underway. In addition, the SQS team delivered a live demo of dSpacer, the technological platform underpinning the data space, where we were able to see in action the management of connectors, data catalogs, transaction control, and participant registry.

There are two ways to participate in EDS2: as a Promoter, for organizations that want to create and govern their own trusted environment; or as a Participant, joining existing environments to publish or consume data.

Among the use cases, the digital passport of healthcare training has been highlighted, which connects sector workers with public administrations, and ATDOC, a use case focused on building a comprehensive profile of dependent elderly people by integrating data from multiple sources, among others.

Data in Action | Transforming Cities: the impact of data on mobility and urban services

Smart Cities LTD-DS | European DS4SSCC Spaces

The way cities plan, manage, and improve their services is undergoing a significant transformation thanks to data. From the management of public resources and services to urban mobility, smart information facilitates more agile, effective, and sustainable decisions. Within this framework, Smart Cities LTD-DS Data Spaces and European DS4SSCC Spaces are establishing themselves as essential tools for promoting innovation in European cities.

In this webinar, Antonio J. Jara, CSO of Libelium and leader in IoT solutions for smart cities, explained how data transforms mobility and urban services in practice. Among other things, we saw how data collaboration between the public and private sectors allows for the optimization of traffic, routes, and public transportation, improving mobility and urban planning.

European cities and regions are already implementing these solutions, demonstrating how intelligent data management can transform city life, reduce congestion, promote sustainability, and improve the quality of public services.

Datos en Acción: Casos de Éxito con LKS Next

📢 Digital Product Passport (DPP)

The Digital Product Passport (DPP) or Pasaporte Digital de Producto (PDP) is a key initiative of the European Union, part of the European Green Deal and the Circular Economy Action Plan. Its goal is to increase transparency, traceability, and sustainability of products by providing accurate data on their origin, environmental impact, and opportunities for reuse and recycling.

This system will transform industries such as electronics, batteries, textiles, and construction, ensuring compliance with environmental regulations and promoting a more sustainable model. Its mandatory implementation in the coming years will represent a significant shift for industry.

In this session, LKS Next presents the role of the DPP in the digitalisation and sustainability of industry, sharing its experience in its application and the benefits it offers.

Unboxing: ADP4DS (Anjana Data Platform For Data Spaces)

As part of BAIDATA’s new series of webinars titled ‘Unboxing,’ we have created a space dedicated to showcasing the technological solutions that are transforming data spaces, promoting interoperability, and strengthening digital sovereignty in various sectors. With this series, we want to open the ‘box’ of innovation and analyse, in a practical and accessible way, how different organisations are building reliable and sustainable data ecosystems.

With this initiative, we hope that ‘Unboxing’ will become a key event for discovering relevant ideas, inspiring new collaborations, promoting knowledge exchange, and highlighting the value of the solutions presented, which enable a more reliable and sovereign digital ecosystem.

Mario de Francisco Ruiz (CEO of Anjana Data) and Lucía Engo Bermejo (Head of Customer Success at Anjana Data) jhave led the first session of this series, presenting ADP4DS (Anjana Data Platform For Data Spaces), a product developed by this Spanish company to offer Data Space promoters a plug-and-play technological tool for quickly and efficiently building data spaces, avoiding costly developments and allowing users to focus on use cases and the business model.

During the session, a practical demonstration of the platform was also conducted, showcasing its main features, ease of use, interface adapted to different participant profiles, and how it facilitates the implementation, operation, and administration of a Data Space.

Following the main standards and frameworks in Data Management, European Regulation and Normative, Data Spaces and Open Data, ADP4DS provides a comprehensive solution for implementing and managing Data Spaces in SaaS, PaaS or IaaS formats. Its architecture is scalable, interoperable, modular and open, and enables customisation through low-code and no-code. The platform, which is based on established and globally recognised technology, offers a tailored experience to different types of users, such as producers, administrators and consumers. It provides advanced capabilities for expert users and simplifies implementation, operation and management with a low learning curve. In addition, it has a flexible pay-per-use model that offers unlimited coverage of connectors and participants, ensuring scalability and efficiency in the management of Data Spaces.

The session also emphasised that ADP4DS is a reality thanks to the Product and Service Promotion Plan grant (Plan de Impulso de Productos y Servicios), thereby strengthening a fully Spanish technological solution that supports the digital and technological sovereignty of the entire European data ecosystem.

Datos en Acción | Centro demostrador de espacio de datos multisectorial One Health

Data in Action: One Health data space: insights from CESGA

In this talk, CESGA presents the DATAlife One Health Multisectoral Demonstration Centre, an innovative data hub launched as part of the Data Hub Promotion Plan by the Secretary of State for Digitalisation and Artificial Intelligence. This centre aims to facilitate the secure and controlled exchange of data within the One Health framework, which integrates human health, animal health and environmental sustainability.

CESGA, a public research foundation dedicated to scientific advancement since 1993 and a node of the Spanish Supercomputing Network, is leading this initiative, offering a decentralised, secure and interoperable platform. The One Health strategy addresses key sectors such as hospitals, pharmacies, laboratories, the agri-food industry, aquaculture, veterinary care and sectors related to environmental care, such as water quality and forestry.

The Demonstration Centre already has deployed technologies, including a FarmaciaVAX pilot with D-Spacer and an on-premise data space using XDataShare technology, which enable the development of real-world use cases and attract new participants. The session also featured an MVD demo, showcasing the exchange of non-sensitive vaccination data between pharmacies and health services, whilst ensuring privacy and control. Practical use cases, such as vaccination management in pharmacies, form part of a system aligned with European standards such as DSSC, IDSA and Gaia-X, promoting regulatory compliance and data sovereignty.

Deep Dive | Sovereignty and trust: the foundations of effective governance in data spaces

The roll-out of data spaces presents a key challenge: how to establish governance models that guarantee data sovereignty and build the trust needed to share information securely, transparently and in compliance with regulations. In environments involving multiple stakeholders, defining clear and common rules becomes essential to ensuring the ecosystem functions properly.

In this context, data spaces emerge as a strategic infrastructure for driving collaboration and value creation, provided they are underpinned by robust and operational governance mechanisms. Consequently, the governance framework (rulebook) is fundamental to structuring the ecosystem, by establishing the set of rules, processes and responsibilities that enable all participants to be aligned.

In this Deep Dive, Francisco Aranda (Senior Legal Consultant – CARSA) discussed the importance of governance in data spaces, the role of the rulebook as a key element in establishing common rules and responsibilities, and the best practices required to ensure the interoperability, regulatory compliance and sustainability of these ecosystems.
