DESCRIPCIÓN
The EITB headquarters in Bilbao hosted, last October 24, the official launch of the TEMS project, a common data space for the media industry at European level. This project seeks to improve the competitiveness, economic development and digital transition of local and regional CCIs in Europe, through the achievement of different objectives: the articulation and deployment of a secure and trusted data space; the promotion and growth of data providers; the establishment of digital partnerships; increasing the capacity and competitiveness of SMEs; and supporting the adoption of new technologies, such as AI (Artificial Intelligence) or VR (Virtual Reality).
From the BAIDATA Association, as one of the 43 partners of this project, we had the opportunity to share our knowledge and experience in the construction of data spaces through our intervention in a presentation and participation in a round table. Below, we will talk about the most interesting points we were able to share with other specialists and experts in data spaces.
The session began with keynote speeches by Andoni Aldekoa, General Director of EITB, and Rehana Schwinninger-Ladak, Head of the Data Applications and Creativity Unit of the European Commission. Both stressed the need for public institutions to support data spaces as a key asset for a competitive and sustainable audiovisual sector. In fact, the European Commission has a very important role in TEMS, since the creation and implementation of common data spaces in key sectors is one of the most important points of the European Data Strategy.
To highlight the intervention of IDSA (International Data Space Association), who shared a success case of the DataBri-X Horizon project, in which we saw how European data spaces, platforms and marketplaces, will be equipped with a holistic and flexible data governance process and a perfectly integrated standards-based "ToolBox" for data and metadata management.
After providing the necessary context to understand why common data spaces are both necessary and revolutionary, the introduction to the TEMS project was given by Óscar Lázaro, secretary of BAIDATA and CEO of Innovalia Association, which is the company in charge of coordinating the project. Óscar explained that the implementation of TEMS will not be the end of the road, but only a means to reach the final goal: "to put into practice all these visions and multimedia experiences that the team has put on the table today to gather data".
In the final part of the event, we were able to enjoy a round table "Perspectives from the industrial sector" formed by Jon Telletxea (EITB), Jokin Garatea (Gaia), Aletxu Echevarría (Eiken Cluster) and Jesús Alonso (BAIDATA) and led by Francisco Buján (CARSA), which served as a final discussion forum after a day of presentations and exhibitions.
In short, TEMS is the largest and most important initiative to create and deploy a common European data space in the media industry. We are proud to be part of the launch of this important project and are eager to start working on its development.
