BAIDATA participates in the launch of the European Support Center for Data Spaces

October 15, 2022

DESCRIPCIÓN

The inauguration of the European Data Space Support Centre (DSSC) took place on 13 October in Brussels and BAIDATA was not to be missed.

The initiative has been launched by a consortium of 12 leading organisations in the field of data spaces in Europe, including the International Data Space Association (IDSA), of which BAIDATA is its node in the Iberian Peninsula. The initiative's partners also include the secretariat of the peninsular initiative, the Innovalia association.

The centre will aim to explore the needs of the different European data space initiatives, define their common requirements, establish best practices and identify standards, technologies and tools that enable the European public sector and businesses to use and share data across sectors in a secure and reliable way. In that sense, the ultimate goal is to provide a basis for the data spaces of the future to have common building blocks in terms of business, regulation, operations, technology and social uses.

This is intended to be done through support activities, the establishment of a platform for knowledge and asset transfer, the development of a toolbox and active communication with stakeholders. It will also make use of the networks of its members, including BAIDATA, which serves as a connection to European data spaces, transmitting leading initiatives from Europe to Spain and Portugal, as well as the activities of the peninsular territories to the rest of the continent.

As BAIDATA's secretary, Oscar Lázaro, pointed out: "the opening ceremony has kicked off a joint effort to harmonise the implementation of the data space in all regions and sectors". An idea that was reinforced by IDSA's CEO: "With the Data Space Support Centre, we have taken a big step into the future. Data spaces are, by their nature, a joint effort. We are not building data spaces for our own self-interest. We are building them to provide smart services that improve people's lives.
