IDSA prepares the next generation of the IDS Reference Architecture Model

January 30, 2026

DESCRIPCIÓN

IDSA has published the first article in a series dedicated to the evolution of the IDS Reference Architecture Model, explaining why RAM 4 has been frozen and stabilized and why the ecosystem now requires a new model. While RAM 4 remains a valid and widely used reference, its largely conceptual nature no longer meets the needs of today’s data spaces, which have evolved into complex, cross-sector and cross-border operational environments.

In response, IDSA is already working on RAM 5, a new generation of the architectural model based on a modular approach and focused on practical capabilities. This new framework will enable better integration with emerging standards, provide greater clarity on governance, identity, interoperability and observability, and support different architectural patterns. RAM 4 will remain as a stable foundation, while RAM 5 will define the future path for the development of data spaces.
