ISO/IEC CD 20151 standard will regulate fundamental aspects of data spaces
April 02, 2025
DESCRIPCIÓN
The International Organization for Standardization (ISO) committee is working on the new ISO/IEC CD 20151 standard, entitled 'Cloud computing and distributed platforms - Dataspace concepts and characteristics'. This standard is a response to the need for clear regulations for the management and use of data in an increasingly interconnected and information-driven world.
The incorporation of data into organizational processes and ecosystems, such as supply chains, marketplaces and digital platforms, is a crucial element for the business world. The value resulting from the use of data plays a critical role in many economies, and efficient, secure and transparent access to this data is considered a strategic asset for organizations and governments.
Thus, both to maintain data quality and trust in the different ecosystems, and to respect the associated rights and responsibilities, standardization of data spaces becomes an essential requirement. ISO/IEC CD 20151 will guide industrial and governmental sectors towards the implementation of solutions for reliable data sharing.
This IDSA-driven process is supported by the most important technical documentation currently available, such as the Dataspace Protocol, the IDSA Rulebook or the recently updated reference architecture model, IDS-RAM5. These documents provide valuable guidelines, but do not constitute a standard. ISO/IEC 20151 fills this gap by outlining the concepts and definitions of dataspaces, their key characteristics and possible functionalities.
