DESCRIPCIÓN
The Ministry for Digital Transformation and the Civil Service has launched the National Health Data Space (ENDS), a public infrastructure designed to enable the secure and ethical use and reuse of health data for research, planning and improvements in healthcare quality. The project involves an investment of 70 million euros and positions Spain at the forefront of digital health in Europe, reinforcing data sovereignty as well as privacy and security guarantees.
The ENDS is structured as an interoperable ecosystem that connects independent platforms, including regional health systems, through common protocols. In addition to enabling the secondary use of health data, it incorporates advanced analytics and artificial intelligence capabilities to accelerate biomedical research and the development of new treatments. This initiative forms part of the Sectoral Data Spaces Promotion Plan, which has already mobilised more than 400 million euros, consolidating data spaces as a key lever for the digital transformation of Spain’s healthcare system.
