Portuguese organizations visit BAIDATA to discuss about data spaces

February 09, 2023

DESCRIPCIÓN

The sovereign use of data is essential for the success of any organisation in today's world and Portugal is no exception. For this reason, it is important for Portuguese organisations to boost the data spaces, in order to make the most of their potential and gain a competitive advantage in the market.

Last week, a visit by Inova-Ria, the Business Association for the development of the Aveiro Innovation Network, together with Fraunhofer Portugal, took place at BAIDATA's headquarters in the Bizkaia Technology Park. The day, which was part of a fact-finding mission to the Basque Country in the framework of the PT HUB ICT project, served to identify good practices and possible opportunities for collaboration with Portugal, as well as to discuss the benefits of the assets of the International Data Space Association to safeguard and guarantee the sovereignty, availability, confidentiality and integrity of data exchanges. They also visited some of our partner organisations such as the Innovalia Association, the Gaia Cluster or the Tecnalia Research Centre.

The collaboration of both territories in this field is essential for the construction of a single European data market promoted within the framework of the EU's digital strategy, especially taking into account the Portuguese Government's commitment to the data economy in its various strategies such as Incode2030 or Portugal Digital, which was envisaged to be expressed in a National Data Strategy.

Similarly, within the Portuguese Recovery and Transformation Plan "Recover Portugal", Component 16 includes among its investments a section aimed at the "Digital Transition of companies" with a budget of 450 M€ aimed at incorporating the promotion of business digitalisation through the acceleration and automation of decision making and execution based on artificial intelligence, the redesign of value and supply chains, optimising speed and resilience and the use of cross-industry data spaces, supported by the European cloud and innovative, secure and energy-efficient IT infrastructures.

In that sense BAIDATA can help Portuguese companies to find funding opportunities to help them to boost data spaces, as well as to energise pilot projects and receive advice or training to connect their business to the data economy.
