DESCRIPTION
Who holds the power to shape the internet? The growing dominance of Big Tech is fostering deep digital dependency—both for citizens and governments. Social media has become a vehicle for propaganda and disinformation, increasingly influencing democratic processes. As the influence of tech giants becomes more entangled with political power, the global consequences are becoming harder to ignore. A strong counter-narrative is more necessary than ever.
The conference will kick off with Canadian tech critic and writer Paris Marx, host of the award-winning podcast Tech Won’t Save Us. Marx will address the urgency of digital sovereignty and the political dimensions of technology.
The programme will feature a diverse lineup of national and international speakers and creators, covering a broad spectrum of themes. Topics include Europe’s role in shaping the internet, alternative social media platforms, the relationship between democracy and disinformation, and the use of AI for public benefit. Meanwhile, the Bazaar space will offer a chance to explore tools, software, and services developed with public value in mind.
