The EU will start requiring a Digital Battery Passport from 2027
March 23, 2026
DESCRIPCIÓN
The European Union will implement the Battery Regulation (EU) 2023/1542 starting on February 18, 2027. This regulation is a key step toward improving sustainability and traceability in batteries used in electric vehicles and industrial applications, which will require a unique Digital Battery Passport (DBP) to be placed on the EU market from this date onward.
To facilitate its implementation, members of IDTA, in collaboration with Catena-X, have developed specific templates based on the Asset Administration Shell (AAS) model. Through seven building blocks, ranging from digital product identification to circularity, this system enables the structured exchange of key information across the entire battery value chain.
In addition, a technical guideline outlines how to apply these models to meet regulatory requirements, marking a significant step toward a more sustainable and digitalized industry in Europe.
