The Alhambra in Granada can boast of having the first complete digital twin of a World Heritage Site. The Alhambra Living Lab project, spearheaded by the Andalusian Digital Agency in collaboration with the Alhambra and Generalife Trust, the University of Granada, and the IoT solutions provider Libelium—a BAIDATA partner—integrates state-of-the-art sensors, big data, and AI to monitor the monumental complex in real time. This technology makes it possible to analyze the condition of the structures and move toward a predictive conservation model by gathering all types of relevant data.

The digital twin also makes it possible to anticipate and manage risk situations. For example, during the recent seismic activity recorded in Granada, the platform facilitated the analysis of the Alhambra’s structural behavior and the evaluation of evacuation plans. The project thus transforms the monument into a living laboratory of innovation, where data is transformed into knowledge to improve its management and conservation, and paves the way for applying this model to other heritage site
