The European Commission has launched a new webpage dedicated to the Digital Product Passport (DPP), providing key information on this initiative, its regulatory framework and the main developments planned for its implementation in the coming years.

2026 is proving to be a key year for laying the foundations of the DPP. During this year, the framework for the European registry has been established, and the registry has been operational since 20 July. In addition, the adoption of the remaining standards and new sector-specific requirements for areas such as iron and steel and batteries is expected.

Important developments are also planned for 2027, when the DPP will become mandatory for certain types of batteries, including those used in electric vehicles, light means of transport and industrial batteries. Throughout the year, new sector-specific requirements will also be introduced for construction products, textiles, aluminium and tyres, among others.
