The International Data Spaces Association (IDSA) has published the main conclusions of the Global Data Spaces Roundtable, held in Bilbao during the Data Economy Week. The event brought together more than 25 experts from 11 countries to discuss the next steps for the global data economy and the role of data spaces in its development.

Among the key takeaways, participants agreed that the challenge is no longer purely technological, but one of governance, trust, and value creation. Data spaces were identified as the infrastructure that will enable AI to thrive on high-quality, trustworthy data. However, achieving this vision requires a truly global approach, built on data sovereignty, interoperability, and trusted governance.

Ultimately, the success of data spaces will depend on their ability to deliver tangible value for businesses and public administrations. The goal is no longer simply to enable secure data sharing, but to establish a trusted framework capable of supporting an AI-driven economy, where transparency, accountability, and control are becoming essential requirements.
