Unboxing: EDS2
The digital transformation of the social and healthcare sector requires new ways of managing, sharing and utilising data in a secure, interoperable and people-centred manner. EDS2, a Data Space Demonstration Centre for the social and healthcare sector, has been established within this context.
EDS2 aims to drive a new generation of data-driven services, promoting innovation, efficiency and better quality of care in the field of health and social services. It seeks to facilitate access to digital infrastructure and advanced technologies, foster new service models and create an ecosystem of collaboration between public, private, technological and social and healthcare stakeholders.
During this Unboxing session, we have introduced EDS2 in collaboration with GAIA, exploring its value proposition and the real-world use cases already underway. Furthermore, the SQS team has given a live demonstration of dSpacer, the technology platform underpinning the data space, where we were able to see connector management, data catalogues, transaction control and participant registration in action.
There are two ways to participate in EDS2: as a Promoter, for organisations wishing to create and manage their own trusted environment; or as a Participant, by joining existing environments to publish or consume data.
Notable use cases include the digital health training passport, which connects healthcare workers with public authorities, and ATDOC, a project aimed at building a comprehensive profile of elderly people in need of care by integrating data from multiple sources, amongst others.
